Smout Allen + BLDGBLOG: The British Exploratory Land Archive (BELA)

AA Gallery 16/11/2013 - 14/12/2013

Exhibitions are open Monday to Friday 10:00–19:00, Saturday 10:00–15:00, unless otherwise stated.

The British Exploratory Land Archive (BELA) unites a variety of bodies and individuals to centralise scattered catalogues and document land uses in the UK.

Launched of part of Venice Takeaway at the British Pavilion at the 13th International Architecture Biennale in Venice, the British Exploratory Land Archive was conceived by Mark Smout, Laura Allen and Geoff Manaugh following a research trip to the Centre for Land Use Interpretation (CLUI) in Los Angeles. Founded in 1994, CLUI is a research and educational organisation that aims to understand and record the nature of human interaction with the earth’s surface and, from its small base in Culver City, publishes books, conducts public tours and offers information and research resources through its library, archive and website.
